Castles · 金無双
Gold Twins.
Both golds side by side beside the king on 3h: the castle of the double ranging rook game.
How it goes together
The rook swings first, as for a Mino, and the king walks right, but only as far as 3h. The right gold steps straight up to 4h beside him, the left gold comes to 5h, and the two stand side by side: 金無双, the twin golds. The silver goes up to 2h on the king’s other side, and the edge pawn to 1f.
Move by move
Black only, from the start position. Rook, king, the two golds, the silver, the edge pawn.
Step through the moves, or press play.
Tap a move to jump to it. Arrow keys work once the board has focus.
Seven moves, as many as a Mino, with the king a file further in and both golds in a row beside him.
What it is good against
Attacks from above. The source’s verdict is (美濃囲いより)上からの攻めに強い, stronger from above than a Mino, and in a double ranging rook game that is where the attacks come from: the opponent’s rook stands right above your castle and comes down the file.
Where it breaks
The side: weaker there than a Mino, in the same source. And a Central Rook player cannot use it easily, because the left gold wants 5h, which is where a Central Rook stands.
When to build it
Double ranging rook games, where both players swing their rooks and the attacks come down the files.
Build it at the board.
The app’s lesson walks the king into a Mino one step at a time, and its review names the castle you were building when a game turned.
